A-Z journal - A (for Abeko)

I cannot believe how fast the summer holidays have gone! I am back at school next Monday and will have completed the Diploma by June. I'll be glad to be done with it. At this stage I think this will be the end of the road for my graphic design study. I'll see how things pan out, but I feel ready for a new and different challenge.

Despite the hot weather, I did manage to sort my old scrapbooking supplies that have been hanging around for years and adding to the general feeling of clutter in my little studio, so far I've taken 3 boxes of stuff down to my local library for them to use in their kids program. I get a more focussed workspace - they get some fun supplies - win/win.

Over the past few months I've been (very) intermittently working on an A-Z journal. It's going to be a long-term project.  I work on a pattern from each letter of the alphabet in order. The journal pages are A5 (approx. half letter size).

I meant to start sharing these pages a while back (hence…

The 2016 Pattern Folio

Over the past few weeks I've been working on the updated 2016 version of the Pattern Folio. I've also had to have a hard think about how I was going to make it available this year.

As many of you know, in the past, in order to send out free e-books I use a 3rd party delivery service - this is different service from the one that delivers blog updates to your inbox. Over the past few years I've been experiencing issues with spam filters and an increasing number of people not receiving the free e-books because their mail servers are identifying the emails as spam and blocking them. Frustrating. Stressful. Beyond my control. And time consuming. At the end of the day - it's just not something that I have the resources to deal with, so, I had to make the decision whether to continue with the Pattern Folio at all, and if so, how best to go about it.

So, here's how it is going to work, there will be 2 available formats:

Update Edition: this will include only the 4 patterns …

Puffy 8's VIDEO

We are having a bit of a cool spell here - a huge relief before the weather heats up again next week - we're expecting 39C (102F) again by Tuesday, so I'm making the most of it while I can.
It was a huge thrill to see my Puffy 8's pattern on Tanglepatterns earlier in the week. Here's a video for it:

If viewing via email you may need to visit A Little Lime in order to watch the video.
Have a great day! hx

Orbs-la-Dee Challenge

We live in a very old weatherboard farmhouse with no air conditioning and once it starts heating up over summer it becomes unbearable for me to play upstairs in my studio, so I have now decamped to my summer office (aka the verandah, or the coffee table in the lounge). It takes a little more co-ordination, but I am getting some drawing done.

Today I had a go at the latest Diva Challenge which was to use the Orbs-la-Dee tangle pattern. I don't remember using this pattern previously, so it was fun to try something new.
My interpretations of a pattern are usually more of a riff, than an accurate representation - here's what I came up with:
I wanted to try individual rows of the pattern connected by string, this then lead onto a string swirl dotted with random diamonds and aura-d oval centres which look nothing at all like the original pattern.......hahaha.........but it was the inspiration :)
It's been a while since I've drawn any string and I definitely felt rusty!
Have …

more stuff

Still playing with this doodling style in my journals. I like this open, string-y version.

When I posted some earlier versions of this drawing style a while back, I was asked for steps or a process to recreate something similar. I haven't yet thought of a way to do this as they are freeform creation, but maybe something will come to me. I literally start with a random line on the page and just go from there.
The closest systematic approach that I can think of is to use the method as explained in my Three Little Rules post/or mini e-book. It's not quite the same but may give you a starting point and structure to begin with as the final results are not too far apart.
Have a great day! hx

Puffy 8's PATTERN

O.k., wow. Another year done and dusted! Can you believe it's 2017? Me? I'm still reeling.

So, where did 2016 go? I had so much that I wanted to get done here on the website, but, life takes some interesting turns and my return to full-time study in 2016 though not planned, was so interesting - I loved it!

Since term ended for our long summer break, I've been periodically working on tidying up my files and found some unpublished patterns that I hadn't got around to posting. I'll put them up over the next few weeks.

Today I'm sharing a pattern called Puffy 8's - it's another spin off of 2/8's (love that base pattern!)

You could stop at step 5 above, or keep going to fill all the spaces.
And, what's life without a bit of freeforming?
Wishing everyone a happy, productive 2017!
